In 1941, J.D. Rice started a small lawn and landscape business that would grow over 70 years to become a full-service 28-acre garden center and 100+ acre tree farm. When you begin small, you can shake your customer’s hand and look him in the eye. You can listen to her ideas and questions with uninterrupted attention and you can work with great attention to accomplish everything you set out to do. It doesn’t just happen, but some people are well suited to the important work of delivering on a promise.
Over the next 70 years, people were handpicked to be a part of the Rice’s team. They might have been chosen for their hard work or their horticultural background, because customers liked working with them or because they were licensed landscape architects. But they were always chosen to carry on the careful work of J.D. Rice.
Each of these people built the Rice’s Nursery of today, including J.D.’s children, grandchildren and employees and friends who became like family. These people bring their best to Rice’s every day.
This is how customers come to be acquainted with Rice’s Nursery—through the people who water and weed, grow and give expert, friendly advice on living in and loving your yard and garden.
Seventy years of people who bring purpose and passion to the gardener in all of us.
